Highlights for January show include: 

   * Shooting into the new year, thousands join the launch party in Central Park in the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run, a New York Road Runners event.  The rest of the year is all downhill.

    * Others wait for daylight to inaugurate 2011 with a short dash and shorter dip in the Atlantic in the Coney Island Polar Bear New Year’s Day Swim. It seemed like a good idea when I was on the beach!!!

    * The top scholastic harriers from around the country put it on the line in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in San Diego. A win here makes a career.

    * Finishing the ING New York City Marathon is about fitness for some.  For others, it's an entirely different level of involvement. A ten year "Marathon Anniversary" at the finish line.

    * The Nautica New York city Triathlon is now a major fixture on the metro area sports landscape. A musical tribute to those who raced with distinction, an RCN High Speed Performance.

    * Quite a show in the Aloha state at the Honolulu Marathon.  Work hard before the sun comes up, then savor the "Waikiki Experience" at the finish line.
