Open for More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women's
Half-Marathon
Over
10,000 Registrants Expected for Ninth Annual Race in
Central Park on April 15th
NEW
YORK, N.Y., (January 9, 2012) – More and FITNESS
magazines announced today that registration is now
open for the ninth annual More Magazine/Fitness Magazine
Women’s Half-Marathon, the largest women’s
half-marathon in the country.
Registration
is accepted online at www.nyrr.org/morefitness.
To enhance the race-day experience for all, the size of
the event will be capped, so participants are encouraged
to register early.
More
and FITNESS are co-hosting the event with New
York Road Runners and are expecting more than 10,000
women runners and spectators in New York’s
Central Park on April 15, 2012. Athleta is the
presenting sponsor, Jenny, Oakley, Playtex Sport and
Tonalin are the official product sponsors, Hole in the
Wall Gang is the charitable partner, CARE and Florida
Grapefruit are expo sponsors, sister magazine EatingWell
is a media partner and LiDestri is a food court sponsor.
“After
nine years, this event just keeps getting better and
better. It’s a powerful weekend that not only
celebrates health and wellness, but the incredible
spirit of the thousands of women who come from all over
the world to reach a goal—to get out there and get
moving, and to have a blast doing it,” says More Editor-in-Chief,
Lesley Jane Seymour.
The
13.1-mile More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s
Half-Marathon is open to women runners and walkers of
all ages. The race attracts women from all 50 states and
from every level—from first-time runners to elite
athletes. Each year, the sold-out event provides
thousands of women the opportunity to celebrate their
health, accomplishments and each other.
“This
race is an emotional and inspiring event for thousands
of women to celebrate their healthy lifestyles,” says FITNESS
Editor-in-Chief Betty Wong. “Every year, I am inspired
to see strong women come out and strive to reach their
goals and motivate others. It is an honor to run with
them,” comments Wong.
The
event will kick off on April 13th and April
14th with a two-day Health & Wellness
Expo at the Metropolitan Pavilion (18th
Street between 6th and 7th), where
women can participate in various health-oriented
activities, pick up their runners’ bags and bibs, and
meet magazine editors and running experts. The Expo is
free to the public and will feature health screenings,
fitness seminars, product sampling, shopping,
sweepstakes and more. The weekend will also include a
Runners’ Dinner at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square
sponsored by sister magazine, EatingWell, the
evening before the race. There will be live music
and prizes, and seats are limited so early registration
is encouraged. On race day, supporters and
spectators are welcome to visit the Sponsor Pavilion to
enjoy live music, complimentary samples and sweepstakes.
“The
More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half-Marathon
is a celebration of active, strong and all-around
extraordinary women,” says NYRR president and CEO Mary
Wittenberg. The thousands who participate each year are
championing the mind and body benefits of running and
encouraging women of all ages and abilities to get
running and moving to better health.”
More
and FITNESS also invite all Half-Marathon
participants to raise money for Hole in the Wall Gang, a
non-profit, residential summer camp and year-round
center serving children and their families coping with
cancer and other serious illnesses and conditions.
Women will be given the option to make a donation when
registering for the event. Registrants can also
opt to run on Team Hole in The Wall to raise money
directly for the charity.
Registrants
can also donate to CARE, a leading humanitarian
organization that empowers women around the world to
help end global poverty.
